Stomach ulcers are more common in women than in men and duodenal ulcers are more common in men than in women. The appearance of the peaks of stomach ulcer and 30 duodenal ulcers tend to occur after 50 years.

The bolus into the duodenum has a higher load of acid and this may be one reason why duodenal ulcers are more common. They are an acid in the stomach over time. There are also genetic factors that influence whether one of them is a stomach or duodenal ulcers.
